What struck me the most was the interactivity. Every gallery is designed to engage the senses. We played the instruments, learnt about them, listened to folk tunes, followed timelines of music evolution from ancient chants to Bollywood hits, and soaked in the spiritual ambiance of bells and bhajans echoing through temple-inspired corridors. My kids were wide-eyed with wonder, experimenting with sounds and visuals. My sister who was visiting me from USA fell in love with the place. My parents enjoyed singing on the microphone, listening to the folk music and sitting in peace listening to mantras. The museum doesn’t just present music; it lets you experience it—like standing inside a melody that wraps around you.

The journey through Hindustani and Carnatic traditions, folk rhythms, devotional music, and even the impact of radio and television was thoughtfully curated and visually stunning. The instrument gallery was a treat—a wall of sitars, veenas, tablas, and other treasures from across India. The vintage gramophone room transported us to another era, while the outdoor musical garden let us physically play with rhythm and harmony. Whether it was a glimpse of history or a hands-on discovery, every exhibit taught us something new.
Each time I go to the Indian Music Experience Museum, I come back with deeper appreciation and fresh learning. Sharing this space with my family was special—it gave us a chance to connect not just with our heritage, but with each other through music. If you’re in Bangalore and looking for a space that’s cultural, educational, and uplifting all at once, the Indian Music Experience Museum is an absolute gem. I left with my heart full and my soul humming.
